In case you didn't know, the summer can get quite hot. I mean, like woah. I don't typically do well in these conditions; two steps out the door and
. Shooting weddings in these conditions can be miserable, but a great way to distract you from the unrelenting heat is if you have an awesome couple getting married at a fun and extremely scenic location. The wedding of Kelly and Richard had all of the above, and then some! - More After The Jump -
Upon arriving to where the ceremony and reception was to be, I was engulfed in an amazing saturation of green and luscious trees. I mean, everything's so green! I met up with Richard and his groomsmen getting ready, with the information that Kelly and the bridesmaids, along with Alicia, would be arriving to take photos before the ceremony. There was a very scenic garden behind the manor they were preparing in, which is where we took the group photos and couple portraits.
There was a genius in the design of this plan, which made me desire every wedding I shoot from now on to be done this way when it comes to working under a scorching sun. We had about an hour or so before the ceremony was to take place, and in that time, we switched between shooting outdoors for a few minutes and cooling off indoors. It was brilliant because, just as I was starting to dissolve in my dress clothes, we would go inside to drink water and chill. Then, when we felt up to it again, we would take more portraits a few minutes later. This saved everyone from disintegrating in the July heat while allowing us plenty of time to capture all the portraits we desired.
I loved this plan, especially since we had over an hour to shoot and didn't feel rushed after the outdoor ceremony to cram in as many photos as we could. And because we could take our time with the photos, I genuinely feel as though I got the most out of this portrait session for the simple fact that, unlike previous weddings, I didn't have to hurry everyone along and end up with a single look for a portrait due to the wedding party's leisurely stroll. Our time schedule allowed for a lot of awesome, and a lot of awesome we got!
The best part, however, is that these images are great because you can really see the love between Kelly and Richard in each shot. It didn't require any coaxing to get them to swoon over one another because, well, they already do that naturally! They made for a very cute couple and I was very excited to get to capture their special day! Plus, there were many nice handmade details that made it truly unique, such as the chalkboards and wedding pie instead of wedding cake! Awesome!
I truly enjoyed Kelly and Richard and hope you enjoy the sampling of photos from their fun wedding day!
