Andrew and I knew we were in for a treat from the moment we met January and Carl. January was the practical and grounded one, while Carl was the hopeless romantic one who always had a joke ready. We had the fortune of shooting their engagement photos in Baltimore, going around the Federal Hill neighborhood and taking photos around a Baltimore Love Project mural. As Carl pointed out to his friends when I met up with them as the gentlemen were getting ready for the wedding, "it was in a pretty shady area and I was sure Patrick and Andrew were going to panic, but they were just happy-go-lucky and excited to shoot. I knew they were my dudes right then and there!" Yeah, that's right - Andrew and I brave the conditions to get the perfect shot!
I was a bit spoiled for this wedding, as I had the good fortune to use the new 24-70mm f/2.8 II that was only released a few days before. I wanted to try out this pricey piece of glass ($2,299 on B&H) in a various array of conditions, and what better way to test the limits than a wedding? I love the versatility of the 24-70, as I'm able to get wide angle shots as well as closer cropped portraits. With the traditionally horrible lighting conditions of a church, I was still able to shoot at about a 1600 ISO and still have a 1/160th shutter speed at an f/2.8. I've learned to try not to crank the f-stop all the way, as the results for me tend to be less than favorable, but even worse: I'm noticing my 7D is having focusing issues, and I don't appear to be the only one. I'll have to keep you posted on the results of how I remedy this, but one thing is for certain: that 24-70mm lens is a godsend. Seriously. Go rent it yourself to try it out!
We had a full day of shooting, and while I still don't think all of these photos are enough to show you how awesome the day was, I'm going to try anyway because I had SUCH a great time. I mean, we had over an hour for portraits??? I easily filled a memory card with just the wedding party portraits! Too much awesome... I'll let you see for yourself!
Andrew and I truly enjoyed our time with January and Carl and we wish them nothing but the best! Absolutely a fun bunch to be around!
Until next time,
